The European Data Protection Board (EDPB)

The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) is an independent European body, which contributes to the consistent application of data protection rules throughout the European Union, and promotes cooperation between the EU's data protection authorities.

The EDPB is composed of representatives of the national data protection authorities, and the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS).

The EDPB issues opinions on any matter of general application of the GDPR, or any issue having an effect in more than one member state. In addition, the EDPB issue opinions on some decisions made by European supervisory authorities, which have cross-border effects.

The EDPB also issues general guidance to promote a common understanding of European data protection laws, both across the European Union and around the world. The EDPB can issue guidelines, recommendations and best practices about the GDPR and the Law Enforcement Directive, as well as other documents.
